Apparently the teachers at my school use too much paper. So my principal yelled at everyone at the last staff meeting for, like, ten minutes. Now, I've just been told, we are not getting anymore paper for the rest of the year.
In the words of my students, "Fa reals?"
I am unreasonably annoyed by this. It isn't enough, apparently, that they don't furnish pencils or pens (though my students never have any and never get any all year) and I have to buy them for most of my 120 kids. It isn't enough that I buy every single reward that I give out (although the administration "highly recommends" that we have reward systems). It isn't enough that I spend hundreds of dollars every year supplying those things (crayons, glue sticks, markers, etc.) that my school does not supply me and yet I can only claim $250.00 of it on my taxes, though everyone else in every single other profession gets to claim everything they spend and don't have a limit.
Now I have to buy paper, too? Fa reals? Because, call me crazy, but I think that paper is a necessary expense in a school. I think I need to have paper in order to do my job. I am not asking them for wacky non-educational items like journals for my students, oh no! Paper, people. Paper.
What if I don't supply it? What if I choose not to buy paper, since apparently paper is not a necessary item? What if I fail to turn in the reports I am supposed to turn in and fail to have any way of showing the progress of my students? Sure, right now they are working on white boards and I can tell you how they are doing. But shouldn't that be documented anywhere? Nah, I'm just not going to do it.
Seriously. I'm not buying paper. It's too much. Two months before the end of the school year and it has gotten to be too much. My students come and go out of my class when they want, yell and walk out the door and receive no consequence from the administration. My students cuss at teachers and get told they should "really try to understand their feelings" by the vice-principal. My building is so broken down that an outlet exploded in the cafeteria today and sparked all over some cheerleaders. But it is the paper that put me over the edge.
We are going to have white board madness in Room 134, ya'll. Be warned.
